Dan Henderson, N1ND

Dan Henderson, N1ND, has served as the ARRL Regulatory Information Manager since June 2006.  In that position, Dan is responsible for handling queries related to the Part 97 rules, striving to help amateurs operate legally, safely and appropriately.  He is the ARRL point of contact for questions related to antenna zoning and PRB-1 related issues, as well as information on CC&Rs.  He is the staff liaison and resource for the ARRL Legislative Action program, working as one of the members of the League's Washington team. He also works with ARRL section leadership on state legislative matters, as well as coordinating the ARRL's Volunteer Counsel and Volunteer Consulting Engineer programs. Since 1998, he has served as the ARRL Field Day Manager. Dan started work at the ARRL in September 1998 as the Contest Branch Manager, handling the League's contesting programs.

A native of Asheville NC, before coming to the ARRL, Dan spent 21 years in education – first as a high school teacher and coach in NC and WV, then as a political science instructor at the University of Alabama and UNC-Asheville.  Dan holds a B.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame (hence his callsign phonetics Number One Notre Dame), a B.A. in secondary education from Appalachian State University, a second M.A. in political science from the University of Vermont, and worked on his Ph.D. at the University of Georgia.

First licensed in 1970, he has held the callsigns WN4YMV, WN4QQN, WD4HCY and WA4QQN, in addition to his current call. He has served in the ARRL Field Organization as a county EC and a District EC while living in NC, working in numerous weather related events including hurricanes, tornados and flash floods.  He earned his first "Brass Pounder's League" certificate as a novice in 1970.  Dan has earned DXCC on both Phone and CW, as well on as several single bands.  He has placed in the Top Ten in several ARRL contests, including the ARRL International DX Contest and November Sweepstakes.  His off-shore amateur radio activity includes operations from VE, XE, C6, G, F, HB9, DL, I, 4U1ITU and twice from HV0A.

Outside of ham radio, Henderson enjoys golf, computers, travel, reading, Notre Dame athletics and being a life-long supporter of 2004 and 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox! (He has waited his whole life to be able to add that last one and it feels great!)
